What is INdex?
INdex is Dex’s rotating program for commissions, composites, community input, and quick volunteer calls—expanding the public catalog for legal reuse under CC BY 4.0.
INdex A — Commissions
We commission and record new sessions for the library.
INdex B — Post-Cull / Composite
Selected artists edit performance recordings into sample-ready composites.
INdex C — Community
Polls, feedback, and public input to shape releases and usage.
Mini-Dex — Quick Calls
Ultra-light volunteer calls feeding themed public sets (glory only).

- ~60s non-musical field recordings captured within the United States.
- Your original capture only; no third-party copyrighted content.
- Licensed CC BY 4.0. Glory only (no stipend).
Submit: Google Form → uploads + short notes.

Three-night program; outcomes include recorded sessions for future catalog entries and public conversations on CC & reuse.

How selection works
Process
- Calls are posted under INdex tracks (A/B/C/Mini-Dex).
- Panels include Dex staff and invited reviewers as relevant.
- We prioritize fit for public reuse under CC BY 4.0.
- Timeline: post → review → notify → document → publish.
Rights & releases
- Default license: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0.
- Artists are credited on-page and in downloadable assets.
- Mini-Dex and some pilots are volunteer (glory only).
Eligibility
- Open to individuals and groups; all disciplines welcome.
- Dex may specify technical needs for capture or format.
- Accessibility: alternative formats available on request.
